From April. Thanks A for this. Looks healthy enough. However, doesn't taste as good as it looks. Feels a bit oily, too hard and dry. The texture also varies too much among the different veggies. I'd like to think it's more healthy than potato chips, but not sure if it's true.
From April. Hand cooked English potato chips. Sea salt & cracked black pepper. Thanks A for this fancy-looking chips in a fancy shop. (Whole Foods.) The black pepper is a bit too strong and masks all other flavour, including potato. OK maybe not the salt. The inside of your mouth gets very hot. The slices are thicker than Lay's, and mostly curled up. Many are puffed or bubbled up. There are 9 items on the ingredients list, including starch, sugar, flavouring, and a chemical-looking name. What I don't understand is, Lay's only has 3 ingredients (potato, oil, and salt) but has way more potato taste.
From April. Thanks A. Looks like Goldfish but tastes completely different. The other fish-shaped one was more like cracker while this feels more like biscuit and more milky. The texture is more puffy too. Not a bad snack, but sticks to your teeth a bit.
From April. Dark chocolate mango mangosteen. Did they put these two together because they both start with "mango"? It's yummy, but the packaging makes you think it's yummier then it actually is. Chocolate + tartness is almost always yummy. However, there's no fragrance. Can't detect any mango at all. And somehow it tastes more like berry. In shot, I cannot tell the difference between this and their other chocolate covered fruit juice center varieties. Hmm...
From April. For the same price as other 200g chocolate, this bag only has 142g. (Why didn't they square it off?) However, it's worth the price. The crunch is from cereal. Feels healthy too. Since there are a mix of fruit, the ingredients list is long... and contains a few chemical-looking items. But... but... it's so yummy, I don't care...
From March. From uncle Y for Chinese new year. Thanks. Not a big fan of Pot of Gold because it's usually too sweet too heavy too many. This one might be a little different. At least it's not "too many". However, I suspect it's expired because (1) no expired date, (2) part of the chocolate surface started to have that white powdery layer, (3) some soft fillings have hardened. Hmm... how old exactly is this? Donno... (T_T)
From March. "Mediterranean". Thanks A! On sale at $3.75. Apparently 5 bucks normally. "Seasoned with Mediterranean Spices and Olive Oil flavour". What? "flavour"? Not real? Awwwww~ but it tasted very good. A few chips were bitter, but only very few. At least it says "trans fat free". Not zero trans fat.
From January. Got it across the border in the previous November for Christmas. It's a limited edition and I haven't seen it anywhere else. (At least in Vancouver at the time.) Saved one for mom, and when we opened it, I was shocked to find only 12 candies inside. Yup, quite expensive in this sense. However, it's worth every penny. The top half is white chocolate with ground up bits of red mint candy cane, with the bottom half regular milk chocolate. It's the most delicious white chocolate I've ever had! (Well, technically speaking, not pure white chocolate.) If it's still super awesome after a meal, imagine what happens when you're hungry. Too bad it's expensive.
From January (finally!). "Connoisseur Teacher's Highland Cream Blended Scotch Whisky". Whisky filled European Dark Chocolate. Made in Germany. 50g box contains 5 pieces of candy. The packaging looks good, and is perfect for stocking stuffer or small gift. However, it doesn't taste as good as it looks. Initially, I didn't feel the sour after taste, but it only showed up later. The whisky didn't quite match with the chocolate... ah, that's it! That's why it felt weird!
From December 2011. Thanks R&B for this goodies from their trip! European chocolate does taste different from the north American stuff. It feels more real. This one, however, was a bit more gummy than I thought. Perhaps it's been through a trip and was melted slightly. The chocolate was adhering to the tin foil a little, felt soft, but not sticky. I was hungry and ate half a bar in one sitting. Yikes... It was very yummy.
From December 2011. Thanks A for this Christmas edition. There are 3 of 3 types = 9 pieces in the box and all shape like seahorses. The wrapping is unusual. It looks like the basic twist wrap but all sides are sealed when untwisted, with an "open here" cut in the middle. The candy itself has a chocolate shell with truffle inside.
From December 2011. Christmas special. One of A's favorite. I like it too. Made in Germany, it's slightly on the sweet side, but still very good. You can taste the mild ginger. The texture is soft and slightly moist, which is an indicator of freshness. The coating resembles icing sugar, though. It crumbles easily and is a little messy.
From December 2011. There was the regular chips here. Thanks A again! However, this one is disappointing. The regular flavour is good, but BBQ is not. It just doesn't fit and tastes strange. Not sure if it's just my bag, but some of the chips tastes bitter. Thanks to their colour, I can't tell if they're burnt. A few of them was biting hot. If it was the seasoning, it wasn't mixed well. Overall, I won't be buying another bag. Ever.
From December 2011. Thanks Mrs. M for this one. Made in Canton, China. It's... excellent! It's not like I was hungry. It's good as a standalone. You can taste the egg very well. Not too sweet, and very light. The puffy texture produces a soft and mild crunch. Not much aftertaste. The ingredient list is not as short as I want and contains a few chemical-looking items, but nothing I can't pronounce or look evil. Don't know the price, but I'm looking for it. Let's hope I don't have to give it up when I find out how much.
From December 2011. Thanks A for sharing, and I'm so sorry you didn't like it. I'm so sorry that it changed! The assortment no longer contains A's favorite cracker. I do agree that the missing one is the best in the box. To me, the rest is not bad at all. Crackers are crackers. And this is not cheap crackers.
From December 2011. This one's been around for ages. I just never had a chance to write anything. After all, a single pack looks too sad. Thanks A for sharing. With the bulk box, it's much better.
From 2011 December. Thanks A for this one-month expired Strawberry Crunch. Too bad, just too bad. It's supposed to be very good stuff. I tried one, and it testes expired. The whole bag will have to be discarded. (My household is in the experimental food scrap disposal program, so this will not go to the landfill.) From that one single piece I tried out, the strawberry taste was way too strong. It was like dipping cereal chips into syrup, and was a mismatch. I wonder if it tastes different when fresh.
From 2011 December. Thanks A for this expiring can. (Still good as long as it's finished before Christmas.) Cookie roll with chocolate hazelnut filling. In my experience, this should be very good. But... no. Unlike the lighter Asian ones I've had, this one is very heavy. So heavy, I can only eat 2. The filling feels like icing sugar and horribly sweet to the extend of unpleasant! The icing sugar taste over power the hazelnut. The only good part was the cookie. I guess I'll stick with the lighter Asian verity "Pirouette".
From 2011 December. It's T&T brand and on sale for $1.50 or so. The sampling was so good, I bought a box last month. (Each box contains 2.) I think they're over frozen. At least more frozen than the sample. The pancake part felt a bit unfresh. (Nope, it doesn't expire until next September.... hey wait a sec! It lasts for 10 months???? That's wrong!!!) The strawberry ice-cream taste is dominant yet still let the pancake taste show through. The red bean filling was definitely over-frozen, which makes the texture icy. I was hungry too, yet it didn't taste that good. It fails as both pancake and ice-cream. Even fails as ice-cream sandwich. Overall, I don't know what went wrong, but it should be better then this.
Mrs. May 's Fruit Rounds Whole Strawberries, from 2011 December. The strawberry is freeze-dried. As I took the first bite, I tend to inhale a little to reduce crumbs, but ended up inhaling some powdery strawberry. Of course I chocked. Not a big deal, though.
