- Hmm... let's see what else this drug can do.
- Some patients say they have more restful sleep.
- This drug may help people without Parkinson's disease to sleep better.
- But it's hard to get them to buy drugs unless they're sick.
- Maybe their legs move too much during sleep.
- Let's make up a disease called "Restless legs syndrome".
- Let's "educate" the public with TV and magazine ads.
- Let's help by teaching the public how to present their case to their doctors by multiple choice questionnaire and free info kits.
- The doctors will then prescript our drug.
- Yay~!! Big money!! ♥♥♥ Mwahahaha!!! ♪♪♪
- The drug company lives happily ever after.
- (The above maybe fiction, maybe not.)

Boy, you seem really mean and cynical. I am sorry. I hope that none of my patients who suffer with RLS ever see posts like this. Additional comments are in my blog on sleep. -sp

Mr Steve, I do believe you are one of the very good doctors who gets sponsored cruises and sponsored golf tournaments, or family vacations paid for by drug company's.... Enjoy prescribing people drugs when they don't need them, ruining house and home and causing people to be bankrupt(in the states mostly)Have a happy existence.
(P.S.) If you are not one of these good doctors, then I am sorry, and you are one of the very few out there and this DOES NOT apply to you. And I really would wish you a happy life.)
Thanks for your comment, Mr, Steve. (^_^) And the drug company probably wishes no one saw the last episode of "About the Money" on PBS, where the invention of RLS was revealed as an extremely successful marketing campaign. The full story was told. The drug company doesn't deny it. It's a known fact.
Thanks for your comment, Kieran. (^_^) Money is evil, isn't it? But... can't live without it... (T_T)
Visit www.rls.org and their discussion boards. My husband is a physician who doesn't receive money from ANYONE. But he does see people come into his office with RLS who are unable to sleep. He went to one of the best med schools in the country where they are TAUGHT about RLS. It is real. What the drug companies do is a whole 'nother story but just b/c you don't have it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Thanks for your comment, Mrs. Anonymous. Yup, it's real now, and it's here to stay. I would be more comfortable if it wasn't created by a drug company. And with all respect, just because obvious evidence doesn't show itself under the sun, doesn't mean that money isn't working somewhere backstage. I even wonder if politicians allowed prescription drugs to be marketed directly to the public as a result of drug companies donations. This is an interesting video about how the ad works.
