Chocolate fountain

Thanks for the invitation. Sorry I'm not cool enough to hang out with the cool people. Sorry I'm not worthy of a hand shake or a good night hug or eye contact. Sorry I'm not even worthy to be in a photo. Sorry it's been raining for 2 days straight and I'm aching allover. Sorry I'm not even myself.

More moon

To Chinese, the Moon Festival is like Christmas to the western culture. It's the time of year when family reunion happens. However, my family isn't fuzzy about that sort of stuff, so we did the "celebration" tonight instead of last night. And by "celebration", it's just eating out with my brother and his wife and 2 girls. See? My parents are super boring people who raise lame kids. Yes, I'm the lame kid. (T_T) Yeah, yeah, I'm no longer even a kid ages ago. But that's when you build the base for the rest of your life.
There was no cloud tonight so I tried another moon photo. It's definitely better than yesterday, but still not very good. The camera only gave me 6 pictures before the battery died. But 2 good ones out of 6, is way better than yesterday's 2 out of 22.

Happy Moon Festival!

Wow, before you know it, it's mid fall! Moon Festival is also known as Mid-autumn Festival (and Lantern Festival). There probably are celebrations around town, especially Chinatown and Richmond, but naaaah, I needed to go to the gym.

Tried to take pictures of the full moon, but didn't work out. These 2 are the best out of 22 photos. Most of them are blurred, and can't even see the outline of the moon like the one on the right. (Well, OK there were some clouds too, but if I can see the shape of the moon with my own eyes, the camera should be able to capture it too.) I tried almost all settings. Night landscape doesn't really work. Surprisingly museum mode works best. Weird.

Curiosity kills the cat... and me. Broke the Pinky right before shooting the photo above. (T_T) The waist kind of wiggled so I just pulled. The joint looks like ordinary waist joint too. However! No other peg can fit into the trunk hole, and the raised rim around the hip peg prevents anything from going down. (T_T) Looks like they were held together with paint only. No glue. Blue tag was the emergency fix for the photo shoot. I'll have to insert a wire for the real repair...

Autumn equinox

Aaargh! It was yesterday!
And tomorrow is Moon Festival.
Time seems to be flying faster than ever!
Why are my Pinkys moving so slow... (T_T)

Sakura flower jam

A gift from my Japanese friend Sora in... May? Thanks Sora~! (^_^)

Finally ate it. I was hoping to photograph it with some custom made Pinky but too bad they aren't done yet. (T_T) The expirary date shows Sept 9 2007. I barly made it. (Yup, as usual, this entry is late.)

The taste is very light and fruity, but can't tell what kind of fruit it is. Slightly tangy, not too sweet. The flower stems felt like eating veggie, haha!

I'll update this once I translate the list of ingredients. There seems to be some weird stuff. And I want to know where that fruit flavor comes from. (^_^)

(Added Sept 24th.) Here it is. Seems OK.
砂糖 Sugar
桜のエキス Sakura extract
花 Flower
異性化液糖 Isoglucose
ゲル化剤(ペクチン) Gelling agent (Pectin)
酸味料 malic acid
アントシアニン色素 Colouring

Plants

The sun flower is made of polymer clay (Femo, Sculpey etc). The rest, paper. But not fragile at all. They must have gone through some kind of process.

Bear etc

I can't believe someone actually made a dressed and decorated teddy bear this small!

Grey

Oh my god... Yesterday was still summer, today is late fall. It didn't rain, but my neck still hurts. (T_T)

Photo taken about a month ago. Miniature hard wood floor of a diorama my employer was making. Real cherry veneer.

White flowers

These are actually from a tree. Sorry I don't know much about plants. And all these flower photos were actually taken in spring. Totally forgotten to upload them.

Figs & palm melon

(Left) Palm melon. Prickly. Still young.
(Right) There are plenty of little figs but they won't make it this year. Oh well...

Tomato

The backyard tomatoes are starting to come in. Last year we had cherry tomatoes. This year, strawberry tomatoes. They're sweeter. And then the same old yellow ones too.
Apparently the strawberry tomatoes are expensive. A bunch costs just under $3.

Candies

It's not even Halloween yet, but Michael's got Chirstmas merchandise on their shelves already. Oops... this Michael's has nothing to do with Mike in the photo.

Chiropractor

Haven't had my fix for 3 weeks because my chiropractor had been on holiday. Oh dear... that was tough. (T_T)

Head size

005 (left) and 010 (right).
The size of the facial features and the head itself are getting smaller. The face of newer Pinkys are shrinking. Are they trying to save plastic? 005 and 001 (maybe 003 too) have the biggest heads and eyes. My all-time favorite is 004. The proportion is just right. It's the only droopy round-eyed Pinky. Well, 012 and 016 also fit into that category, but the smiley face makes it hard to customize.

Calbee Honey BBQ Chicken...

More chips review.
Calbee Honey BBQ Chicken Wing Potato Chips. 55g, 3 for $3.59

Very interesting. It does taste like the Hong Kong style BBQ chicken wings! First impression: too light. There's the base of chicken extract, then sweetness from the honey. Non spicy. I was expecting something much stronger and saltier. Unlike the Gyoza chips, the taste of potato is dominant. Which is, unfortunately, too starchy and lacks a punch. This flavour does not satisfy my salt craving. Will I buy it again? Hmm... perhaps not.

Since it's 3 for $3.59, what did I get for the third bag? Seaweed flavour (also Calbee). It's the one that satisfies my salt craving best. Because I've written a review on my junk food site before, I'm gonna skip it here.

Calbee Gyoza Chips

Oh~ dear, the salt craving started. (I... go into salt cravings periodically, sigh...) Perhaps I'm just taking advantage of it and turning it into a chips craving. Eating salt alone helps a little bit, but chips works best.

So, might as well do a review. Hehehe... I haven't touched my junk food site for at least 9 months. 2 days ago I was trying to do a small update on my toy site. To my horror, I can no longer log in! The control panel page had disappeared and redirected to somewhere else! Aaaaaaargh!! That's it, I'm leaving Byehost. Anyway, back to the subject.

Calbee Gyoza Flavoured Potato Chips. 55g, 3 for $3.59
I've tried it a long time ago, and totally forgotten what it tastes like. The packaging has changed too. So maybe the flavour's different?

As soon as I opened the bag, the strong vinegar smell of gyoza dip bursted out. OK, so it's all about the dip. Yes, it tastes like gyoza dip too. Salty and sour. About 1/3 through the bag, the hot-and-spicy side showed up. My mouth was burning slightly, but it was well withing tolerance. They've done a good job recreating the taste.

However, it leaves an unpleasant oily coating inside my mouth. A coating that sticks. It expires next March, so this has nothing to do with freshness. And then, garlicky after taste that lasted for hours... (>_<;)

Last figs

Last figs this summer. The harvest was a lot less than last year.
