Yuen Long, classmates

Brother's father-in-law was discharged yesterday afternoon so we changed plan to pay him a visit in Yuen Long. (Yup, chicken flu area.) He's got diabetes for 35 (or is it 38?) years. His kidneys were damaged and needed dialysis early on. No one believes he's been diabetic for this long. Usually patients rarely last beyond 20 years. As he puts it himself, he should have been long gone, and is buying time with money. This most resent hospitalization was a close call. His wife's been looking after him and has saved him numerous times, but not this time. His condition was so bad, she thought he was gone. Luckily the hospital was able to turn him around. However, wounds don't heal easily and his toes are rotting. I feel sorry for him, but again, this is yet another perfect example of an unreasonably stubborn man. He refuses to hire any helper or nursing staff, so his wife has to take up the full work load. (... Same with my dad...) This, is a kind of abuse. Why do women always have to suffer?
Afterwards, had lunch with auntie B and her husband, who showed us around the Tin Sui Wai district. Nice area. But again, if you're rich, you can have whatever you want.
Had dinner with a bunch of ex-high-school classmates. Only 4 people were able to come. Being on a Friday alone makes things more difficult. I'm glad to be able to seem them again.
